Joseph Hennawi is a cosmologist whose work focuses on topics like the nature of dark matter, gravitational lensing, active galactic nuclei, cosmic reionization. After his Ph. D in Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton, he starts his academic career at The University of California, Berkeley, and finally at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, where he currently leads the ENIGMA research group on diffuse gas in the intergalactic and circumgalactic medium. His work as Research Group Leader gained him the 2010 Sofja Kovalevskaja Award at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
