Breaking the Wall between Excellence and Capacity Building. Should Europe Favour One or Go for Both?
Professor Paul Boyle, Research Councils UK (RCUK) International Champion and Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is the first President of Science Europe. Science Europe is a newly formed organisation that brings together 50 research performing and funding organisations from across Europe. It will promote the collective interests of its member organisations, and streamline the coordination of policies and activities. Professor Boyle’s research has been within population and health geography and he has been the Director of the ESRC funded Longitudinal Studies Centre - Scotland. He was also Co-Director of the ESRC funded Centre for Population Change, and Co-Investigator on the Wellcome Trust-funded Scottish Health Informatics Programme and the ESRC-funded Administrative Data Liaison Service
