Falling Walls Conference:BREAKWhich are the next walls to fall?

When the Berlin Wall fell the world changed. Last year's 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall marked the starting point for a new type of science conference: Over two dozen outstanding researchers from all over the world showcased breakthroughs in their respective fields and their impact on society - answering the questions: Which are the next walls to fall? And what will the world look like thereafter? The unanimous positive response of speakers, audience and media encouraged the organising committee to establish a new charitable organisaton dedicated to searching for future breakthroughs and convening once a year those who are passionate for the future on the occasion of the fall of the Berlin Wall - celebrating the freedom of thought and research excellence.

Date: The Falling Walls Conference 2010 will take place on November 7-8, 2010 in Berlin. Evening of November 7th: Welcome reception, November 8th: full day conference concluded by a festive dinner.

Programme: A one-day, single-track conference of approx. 24 presentations of 15 min. Each will show a future breakthrough in an individual field, thus a multitude of scientific areas will be represented. Conference language is English. Speakers and subjects are rigorously reviewed in collaboration with leading research institutions.

Partners: The event is officially endorsed by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research as well as the Berlin Senate for Education, Science and Research. In order to secure a roster of international top-class participants, the organising committee collaborates with universities and research institutions as well as noted individuals, corporations, the media and non-governmental organisations. The supporting organisations include acatech, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, BBAW, DAAD, Fraunhofer, Helmholtz, Leibniz, Max Planck, Stifterverband and many others.

Location: Situated in the "Mauerstreifen", the formerly prohibited border area, the Radialsystem conference centre blends today’s upbeat spirit of the German capital with the past of a divided world. Formerly a utility plant, it is now one of Berlin’s youngest cultural hubs (www.radialsystem.de). The longest piece of the Berlin Wall still standing, the East Side Gallery, can be found in the immediate vicinity.

Participants: Limited to max. 600 guests from all over of the world. The event is geared towards top representatives from science, politics, business and culture. Last year over 60 nations were represented.

Admission: Prebooking ends on Sept. 17th, 2010. Scholarships for young scientists are available.

Contact: Falling Walls Conference, Falling Walls Foundation gGmbH i.G. (a non-profit-charity), Office@Falling-Walls.com

We are aware that the selection of topics and speakers never can cover everything relevant. Thus, we welcome any suggestions and proposals for our future work: What scientific breakthroughs do you expect? Which scientists are working on these breakthroughs? Office@Falling-Walls.com
