Radialsystem V

Radialsystem V © Sebastian Bolesch

The Art and Event Center “Radialsystem“ is a former water pumping station on the banks of river Spree. It is one of the most recent cultural attractions of the capital. The longest piece of the Berlin Wall that is still in place, the East Side Gallery, is located in the immediate vicinity of the venue. In September 2006 the Radialsystem was opened as a new place for creative and cultural developments in Berlin.

The historical name says it all: A radial system radiates in all directions - the Radialsystem attracts artists and audiences and in doing so it aims to develop a radiant energy far beyond the boundaries of the city. The dialogical principle is crucial for the building and its uses. The symbiosis of old and new, which is presented in the architecture through the combination of an industrial monument with a transparent glass structure, reflects the basic idea of the Radialsystem: The interplay of tradition and innovation, early music and contemporary dance, visual arts and new media economy and culture.
